Race History

Formerly known as Mackenzie's Run and the Poquoson Seafood Festival 5 K Run/2 Mile Walk, Poquoson's Run For The Bulls  is a longstanding tradition to raise funds for various community causes.  The Poquoson Education Foundation, Inc. and the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson created a unique partnership in 2013 to jointly sponsor the run and raise funds to support and enhance  instruction in Poquoson City Public Schools.  Proceeds from the run are used to fund innovative programs and instruction through grants awarded to PCPS teachers.  Proceeds are also used to award scholarships to graduating PHS seniors. Run For The Bulls was held the Saturday before the Poquoson Seafood Festival until 2015 when the run was postponed due to weather.  The date was changed to the last Saturday of October.  It  seemed to fit much better with planners and participants so the decision was made to continue holding the run on the last Saturday of October.

Beginning during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, The Run for the Bulls sprouted a virtual "sister race," The Give Thanks for Education Virtual Race Series to carry on the torch of racing and raising funds for our schools in the era of social distancing and pandemic restrictions. In the following year, 2021, Poquoson's Run for the Bulls made a reappearance and the virtual option continued--allowing participants to choose the race format that was most comfortable for them.
